ArticlesBusiness YouTube
A small YouTube channel can be more useful than a large one
Audience size is only part of the business value. Who watches, which decision they are making and what happens next often matter more.

Imagine two videos. The first receives 100,000 views on a broad topic and attracts a mixed audience. The second reaches 800 people, many of whom are business owners currently choosing a provider.
The first wins on the public counter. The second may be far more useful to sales. Its viewer recognises their situation, sees how the expert thinks and arrives at a meeting with part of the trust already built.
Three jobs for content
- Reach: introduces the business to new people.
- Trust: shows depth, method and the person behind it.
- Decision: helps someone compare options, reduce risk and take a next step.
One video rarely performs all three jobs equally well. I therefore decide its role before production. For a broad video, we look at who it attracts. For a detailed explanation, we check how long people watch and whether they continue to other material. A case study is judged by whether it helps the buying conversation.
Views still matter. Scale creates more opportunities. The number becomes useful when read with context: traffic source, topic, geography, behaviour and the action that follows.
Ask sales which videos they would send to a prospect before a meeting. That list often reveals the commercial value of the channel more clearly than the subscriber total.
